  • Elizabeth has had a sleepless night and is disturbed early by Freddie trying to write a story about the hawks. Freddie gets a commendation for his story at school and it makes Elizabeth nostalgic for times past. She is now determined to go it alone. Freddie, Lily and Elizabeth are just fine.
  • David is back to his depressed state again. He won’t eat and insists on keeping doing things without taking a break. Ruth tells him it was Nigel’s decision and not David’s. There is no point going over and over it. But he is determined to play the martyr again. Ruth tries to force him to eat and to rest but he won’t. Elizabeth will never forgive him, how is he supposed to cope with that?
  • Roy is suffering too from Elizabeth’s problems. She has suddenly started to be controlling again but doesn’t listen when he tries to complain.
  • Ruth makes a rushed visit to Jill in a panic. Eddie keeps trying to talk about No. 3 the Green but she finally gets away to talk to Jill. Jill tries to call Elizabeth but just hangs up on her when she hears Ruth is with her. Ruth realises how much she was tempting fate yesterday when they were so happy. But there is nothing to be done. David made it seem as if he was totally to blame.
