  • Ed and Emma are finding it hard to find time alone without a place of their own. They can’t even go to the Bull. All the parents need time to get used to the idea. Clarrie is the worst. She says it didn’t work before and won’t work again. She can’t get over how upset William is. They’ll just have to prove them wrong won’t they.
  • Matt is still struggling with his newts. He has built them a new pond and everything but still needs a licence before he can begin building. In the meantime he has a letter from Borchester Social Services. They have got his original birth certificate and he has to make an appointment to find out what it says.
  • Ed has talked to Mike about selling more local food on the milk round. Mike is very keen but it will be quite a job to talk Oliver round.
  • Joe and Mildred have a farewell trip to Lakey Hill. She’s had a wonderful time and so many things to think about when she gets home. It turns out the reason she won’t come back is she has terminal cancer. She’d come back to say farewell to her youth but once she met Joe she started living for today again. She’d almost been able to forget she was ill. She feels it was wrong not to tell him but she didn’t want to put a shadow over their time. But Joe says no. This last month has meant more to him in some ways than any since his Susan died. Knowing that she has spent so much of the time she has left with him makes it even more special. And as for what he thinks of her, a kiss says it all.
