  • Eddie and Joe bring the cider into Brookfield for the Cider Club meeting, assisted by Will. He turns down an invitation, in case he meets Ed. Meanwhile he’ll take George to see the pheasants; he doesn’t like hearing that George wants to be a farmer like Ed.
  • Clarrie returns and is appalled to learn that Eddie intends to invite everyone to Brookfield, but Eddie claims it’s too late to cancel.
  • Pat shows Tony a website about community shops. She’ll ring Peggy and call round to discuss it with her. Tony wonders what Helen’s position might be if they were to go down this road, but Pat says her tenancy of the flat could be safeguarded. They agree that they will need Usha on the steering committee.
  • The club members arrive, and Clarrie stands by with her mop, in case they dirty the floors of Brookfield. Neil is made to take his shoes off, and Joe is told off for spilling his cider. But they all enjoy the evening and the cider.
  • Pat returns from her chat with Peggy in good spirits. Peggy’s supportive of the plan as long as she has no responsibility for it. She’ll talk to Susan – while they’d need her to run the PO, they can’t pay her anything. Tony breaks the news of Lilian and Matt’s escape to Costa Rica. Whatever is Matt up to?
