  • It’s the churchyard Open Day, and Lynda’s in hyper-bossy mode. It doesn’t get her far – somehow no-one has time to see all the fascinating exhibits; they’re too anxious to get to the Flower and Produce show.
  • Tension mounts as the judges begin their deliberations. Ruth manages to miss the judging entirely, waiting for Ben to finish his pipe-cleaner giraffe. Phil spots Bert peering through the window at the judges.
  • Emma’s none too pleased to see Will with Jake as well as George, especially when Will tells her Nic is having a lie-in. He offers to bring George back later, but Emma insists she’ll come and fetch him.
  • Phil realises what Bert is looking at; a water pipe has burst in the hall, and the exhibits are awash! Everyone rushes to save their marrows and pots of jam, and they are put in the church. But in the melee, no-one notices Derek Fletcher swap the entry card from his beans to Bert’s. Bert soon realises what’s up, and Phil offers to swap the cards back again.
  • Lynda is in ecstasy as the crowds pour into the church. Bert is in ecstasy because his beans win first prize. He offers Phil a pint for being such a good loser.
  • When Emma calls for George, she makes a number of attempts to let it slip that she has a date. Somehow, though, Will doesn’t seem to be listening. Finally Emma asks him to have George on Friday, and says it’s because she’s going out with someone she’s met. Will appears unmoved, but there’s something in his tone that suggests he’s a little bit miffed.
