  • Having had no reply from Helen, Ian rings again to try and persuade her to go out with him, but Helen is enjoying her misery too much to give him a straight answer.
  • Shula asks Darrell how he got on with the housing department. He tells her the woman was nice, and allowed Alistair to come in with him. He shows her the notes Alistair wrote, but when Shula asks if he is all right about the suggestions, Darrell seems unsure. Concerned about him, Shula asks Daniel, who is now to be addressed solely as Dan, if he would mind Darrell coming to his birthday dinner. For Dan it’s cool.
  • Helen is persuaded to go out with Ian, but refuses to eat her meal and talks constantly and unremittingly about Rob. Ian listens sympathetically and endeavours to offer advice, but Helen is listening only to Helen. What if she were to tell Jess exactly what she is married to? It is, after all, what Rob deserves.
  • Dan’s birthday dinner is somewhat marred by Alistair being out on call and Darrell stuck in his room. Jill makes bright conversation and a cake, and then Darrell appears. Dan tries to include him by mentioning that Rosa had told him Darrell was a traveller; Darrell rushes from the room in distress. Pleading jet-lag, Dan goes off to bed, leaving Jill to tell Shula in no uncertain terms that Darrell must go, but Shula flatly refuses.
