Lilian mourns the end of her relationship; David and Ruth are fascinated by the start of Pip’s.

Radio Times: The future looks bleak for Lilian.

Characters: , , , , , ,
  • Alan is impressed that Lynda has already done some research on Parish walks but time is pressing and he has a meeting; they will talk later.
  • David and Ruth have found a vantage point from which to observe Pip but fail to catch a glimpse of Jonathan; they are caught in the act by Heather, who announces that she wants to go home for a special friend’s birthday party – straight after Mothers’ Day. David suddenly takes off on an urgent mission.
  • Lynda is keen to show Alan a well-hidden moorhen’s nest, a sample of the wildlife delights that await the Parish walkers. A kid on a motor scooter briefly disturbs their peace. Shortly afterwards – very shortly afterwards – David appears asking whether they noticed which way the lad went? He declines to explain his interest.
  • Lilian explains to Jennifer that she doesn’t believe Matt’s protestations to Brian that his relationship with Annabelle is purely business, though of course he had not admitted to Brian his thwarted amorous ambitions.
  • Back at Brookfield, David reports to Ruth his observations of Jonathan, though not in Heather’s hearing. He enlists her help to look after the kids on Wednesday so that he can take Ruth shopping for a new outfit.
  • Lilian is resigned to the fact that Matt doesn’t need her any more. She thought walking out on him would shock him back into line but it seems to have had the opposite effect. Jennifer tries to get her to talk to him, give him one more chance, but she is adamant that, even though she still loves him, she has lost him; she is on her own.
