Lynda finds her new dog and Jennifer and Brian cement their new found partnership.

Radio Times: Lynda makes a connection

Characters: , , , ,
  • Jennifer has allowed Brian to move back into the marital bed and, on the morning after, they are both pleased with themselves. Jenny piously comments these days people give up way too easily on marriage. It is their anniversary-42 years. Jenny presents Brian with a gift: personalised cuff links. Brian declares he is taking Jenny out to a very special restaurant tonight.
  • Lynda and Robert discuss her birthday but she wishes to stay home rather than go out. Lynda is a bit down; it is too quiet without a dog around Ambridge Hall. Perhaps it is too soon to replace Scruff, she muses. Robert argues they just haven’t found the right dog. They plan a trip to the dog shelter this afternoon.
  • Jenny books a hair appointment. Alice pops in and claims she has been working from home but she came over to wish her parents a happy anniversary. Jenny feels Alice has been working too much and looks a bit drained. Brian asks about her work after Jenny leaves. The restaurant cancels Brian’s booking and he doesn’t know what to do. They decide to walk down and observe the strawberry pickers.
  • At the dog shelter, Lynda frets about all the unclaimed dogs. Robert calls attention to a few dogs but they aren’t quite the thing. Lynda’s focus is drawn to a Doberman when he offers her his paw. His ‘soul is communing with hers’. Lynda wants to walk him. Lynda and Robert seem to have found a new dog; Lynda refuses to even sleep on it. Since this dog is an orphan just as Anne of Green Gables was, the dog will be named after the author of the famed series. This new member of the family will be called Montgomery, Monty for short.
  • Alice shows Brian an app to search for a new restaurant. Alice complains about her hours again at her job. Brian is sure he can find Alice a role in the family business if she wishes. Alice finds a great new restaurant for Brian and it has a two for one special on entrees.
  • At the restaurant, Jenny is having a great time choosing her courses. Lynda comes upon them as she and Robert are celebrating Lynda’s birthday. What has Jennifer done to her hair, asks Lynda? It looks a bit Farrah Fawcett. Luckily, Jennifer takes this as a compliment. Robert mentions the special offer and Jenny is a bit taken aback. Brian can only offer another G&T. As they sit at their table, Lynda spends her time gazing on pictures of Montgomery. Brian comes clean about the restaurant mix-up and Jenny isn’t angry. She appreciates Brian’s honesty. She is so happy, she wishes to throw Ruth a 50th birthday party. Brian is happy with whatever Jenny wants; they are stronger together.
