Radio Times: Ed insists on sticking to his roots.

Characters: , , , , , ,
  • Mike is furious about the swede-tainted milk, and has a major go at Ed about it. Ed stands up for himself and tells Mike he’s taken Joe’s advice, and the problem is sorted. Mike is not impressed.
  • Nigel is finding his new green way of life difficult, but is determined to stick with it. Lizzie tells him he looks like a traffic cone on wheels in his rain-cape, as he sets off to talk to Oliver about the hunt.
  • Over a coffee after his stint in the lambing shed, David tells Ruth he wants to replace a wire fence with hedging, reversing the practice of grubbing out hedges which was the fashion in Phil’s day. Ruth doesn’t seem too keen.
  • Ed meets Nigel, and tells him excitedly about his trip to Paris. They laugh about Lilian and Eddie’s struggles with their Lent sacrifices, but Ed says he has to admire them – and Nigel – for sticking to their decisions.
  • Mike continues to moan to all and sundry about the ‘Grundy mentality’, and eventually tracks Oliver down. Oliver is surprised to hear that Ed’s being stubborn, but says he will sort the problem out.
  • David is treading extra carefully with Ruth, and makes it clear that he sees the hedge planting as something they could do together. Ruth is lost for words, but is clearly touched by David’s thoughtfulness.
