  • Compared to just after the flood, Oliver and Caroline think Ambridge looks in good shape. Caroline is forced to admit that Grey Gables is functioning perfectly well without her, thanks to Kathy, Roy and Ian. They can’t wait to see Grange Farm.
  • The Grundys are dreading the visit: furniture that was put out to dry has been rained on overnight; it’s the first thing they will see. Ed decides they will just have to explain about the accident.
  • When the Sterlings do arrive, the pigs are the first thing they see – and the cattle. The lawn is in bad shape and there is furniture outside. When they ask whether everyone is better, Ed has to be reminded about the vomiting bug.
  • Helen is still struggling with the breast-feeding. She tells Kaz about her mum’s visit; she will be just the other side of the wall but not allowed to see her. The light-hearted chat with Kaz helps Helen to relax and just when she has stopped thinking about it, Jack latches on and gets the hang of feeding.
  • When they see all the damage to Grange Farm, Oliver is sure that it will all be covered by insurance. All of it? Phew! Privately Caroline is amazed that one family can have wreaked so much havoc in just six months. Recognising that they are not happy with the state of the house, Ed wonders about his tenancy of the land but is assured that it is unaffected. However, Oliver and Caroline have a bombshell to reveal: they are going to buy a house in Italy and when in England will live at Grey Gables. They will give three months’ notice and then sell Grange Farm. For the Grundys, the party is over.
