  • At Brookfield a new calf appears – it’s a big one and a girl – with Ruth and Pip as midwives. Before she dashes off on holiday Pip delivers another reminder to get her parents thinking about improving efficiency etc. In her enthusiasm she does tend to lecture on matters they know all about but it’s taken in good part.
  • Elizabeth had accompanied the children to their new school on Wednesday, though she had to scrounge a lift – though not for much longer. She is being strict with them about homework etc. Lily has taken to it, Freddy not yet.
  • Jennifer has taken Peggy to the hospital. Jack has the tests done that he wouldn’t cooperate about yesterday. Peggy is worried about the results, which show that he has indeed had a stroke. What if The Laurels can’t take him back?
