  • Jill meets Peggy on the way to the shop. She’s in a state of high dudgeon. Having taken Bill her cat to see Anesha, without any thought about his feelings, the young vet diagnosed a case of obesity. Worse, she snatched a cat treat from Peggy’s hand. Whatever next? Peggy was mortified. Talk turned to the subject of Lynda’s Speedwatch proposals, she’s looking for volunteers. Peggy leaves for home to prepare tea for Lilian and Justin who are popping in later. She hopes to find out why Lilian was in such an odd mood on Sunday.
  • Justin drives Lilian to his jewellers to sort out her ring. He still can’t get over her proposal to him. On the other hand, she still can’t believe how badly she reacted to his proposal. Ah well, water under the bridge. However, he’s ever so slightly concerned to hear that Matt has credited Lilian’s bank account with £50,000. It’s only a drop in the ocean compared to what he owes Lilian, but still…it’s an odd thing for an “ex” to do.
  • At Brookfield, David and Jill talk over his recent chat with Pip. Jill’s happy to see that things are on the mend but her mood changes when he says that they may not go to tonight’s NFU meeting. Ruth doesn’t want to risk meeting the rest of the farming community. Just then, Ruth calls in for coffee. It becomes clear that she’s not certain that she’s going to Lizzie’s party either as she doesn’t want to be seen playing “happy families” with Pip. Jill is sure that Pip was influenced by others to keep quiet about the escape. Ruth’s not so sure, and in any event, Jill must not blame Toby for everything. That said, she slams off into the office.
  • Peggy is amazed by Lilian’s engagement ring and wonders, in her own inimitable way, if they should have waited for the divorce to go through. Justin assures her that it’s all in hand. He gives Peggy a token of his regard for his future mother in law, a beautiful brooch. Peggy tells her daughter to go into the kitchen and sort the coffee out. When they are alone, Justin pledges to Peggy that he will do nothing to hurt Lilian, he loves her too much. When she returns, it’s his turn to be ejected. Peggy gives Lilian her blessing and if they both love each other, she wishes them well. Beaming with happiness, Lilian invites her to an informal gathering at The Bull on Thursday, to kick off the celebrations.
