  • Tony comments that the cows are milking well, but does little to cheer Pat, who has seen Tom’s new packaging. It made her realise it was really the end of what they had. Tony decides he must ask Peggy for a loan.
  • Emma calls just as Clarrie and Eddie are about to set off for the Job Centre. As usual, the sullen Emma is wrapped up in her own life and shows no interest when Clarrie tells her about Will and Nic’s night out. Clarrie asks about the missing book bag. Emma had found it in the shed, but it had not occurred to her to let Nic know. Clarrie firmly tells her she ought to ring Nic, and resentfully Emma agrees.
  • Jazzer gets into role as manager of the pigs’ football team, and watching them practise raises Pat and Tony’s spirits a little, though they have their doubts about it as a marketing tool.
  • When Tony calls at The Lodge he is horrified at the mess he finds. He sets about washing up and tidying, but is shocked to see how exhausted Peggy is when she returns from The Laurels. Later he tells Pat about it. They realise that some support must be found.
  • Clarrie keeps her appointment at the Job Centre, but realises she may not be entitled to help as she voluntarily gave up her job. Eddie finds it hard to accept; poor Clarrie realises she will just have to go on coping with time on her hands.
